Dentistry... It's All in The Family

“I remember that one of my high-school art teachers said that I should be a surgeon because of my great depth perception and ability to use my hands for intricate art projects. This was still in the back of my mind when I went on to pursue an education in civil engineering, but it was in a chemistry class where everything changed. I met a dental school student there who put a bug in my ear about dentistry. He encouraged me to think about dentistry and shared what he was learning with me. Intrigued, I decided to take the dental aptitude exam and was accepted by the University of Oregon Dental School.

“Dentistry allows me to work with people and use my artistic skills at the same time. Having been born and raised in Hawaii, I really enjoy people and have an outgoing, laid-back and friendly personality. The generations of patients whom I have cared for are my family, and I treat them with the utmost respect and kindness.

“My practice has been in Vancouver since 1972, and I’ve helped generations of families with their dental needs through the years. There is nothing more rewarding than a childhood patient who grows up and decides to send his or her own children to see me for care. That is very gratifying.

“Taking time with my patients helps me to develop strong, personal relationships. I want them to have a sense of trust and security with me as their dental provider, and with me as a person.”

Aimee M. Fujioka, DMD

Aimee M. Fujioka, DMDDoctor of Dental Medicine: Oregon Health and Science University, Portland, OR
BLA: Landscape Architecture, University of Washington, Seattle, WA
Member: Academy of General Dentistry, American Dental Association, Washington State Dental Association, Clark County Dental Society, Seattle Study Club

“I have always had a keen interest in medicine and found it intriguing. This was a guiding factor when I decided to pursue a different direction from my career as a landscape architect and become a dentist.

“While working as a landscape architect, I succeeded at designing beautiful outdoor living spaces for my clients. A similar philosophy of striving to design something both esthetic, as well as functional, applies to the field of dentistry. A smile deserves my conscientious attention to detail, adherence to artistic principles and an overall balance and symmetry. This helps to create a mouth that looks beautiful and also functions well. I intend to utilize my esthetic skills in the practice of dentistry and continue to build on them to benefit my patients.

“My father and I share a similar patient philosophy… treat patients like family and provide them with outstanding dental care and personalized attention. We also have a keen sense of empathy and understanding for our patients’ experiences, allowing us to work in harmony to create good oral health and overall wellness.

“It is an honor to work with my father. He’s seen so many area families grow up and create families of their own. I love that I will help to continue this legacy.”
